Breast augmentation surgery has been the most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S. since 2006. Women of all ages desire breast augmentation, whether they are young women dissatisfied with the appearance of their naturally small breasts or women whose breasts have changed and deflated from pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. Most women interested in breast augmentation start their journey by researching the procedure, and more often than not, the first thing they look at is the cost. Cosmetic surgery, while not out of reach, can be expensive, and the breakdown of those expenses can be confusing. So what does your breast augmentation cost include?

While you may initially think that your breast augmentation cost consists only of the implant materials and the surgeon’s time, these are not the only things that need to be considered. The price of any cosmetic procedure includes a variety of line items. These include material costs, anesthesia fees, surgeon’s fees, and operating room fees.

What Can I Expect?

At Tran Plastic Surgery, we have established estimates for breast augmentation. While these can still be affected by your personal choices, you can expect to pay around $6,000 for your procedure if you are paying with cash, $7,000 if you are paying with a credit card, and $7,500 if you are planning to use CareCredit®. This estimate includes the following items:

Materials

The majority of your estimate consists of the cost of the augmenting materials, in this case, your breast implants. Breast implants are available in the form of saline or silicone. While there may be a slight difference in price between saline and silicone, they are often comparable in price. Saline implants typically cost $4,000.

Anesthesia Fees

Dr. Tran performs breast augmentation under general anesthesia. The anesthesia cost factored into your estimate includes both the anesthesia itself as well as the time for a board-certified anesthesiologist to administer it. Anesthesia-related complications are always a risk with surgical procedures, and you want to make sure that the person administering it is board certified and highly qualified.

Surgeon’s Fees

This fee includes your surgeon’s time and often reflects their experience, knowledge, and the techniques they employ. This fee also covers your office visits and your pre- and post-operative care.

Operating Room Fees

While breast augmentation can be performed in an in-office facility, it may also be performed in a nearby hospital. This covers the use of the space and the time needed for the procedure.

Other Factors That Affect Cost

In addition to the line items listed above, other factors that may affect the cost of your breast augmentation include geographic region, post-surgery garments, and medication prescriptions.

Although we understand that cost is a definite factor in your decision to undergo breast augmentation surgery, it is vital that you choose a surgeon you feel comfortable with. During your consultation, look at the before and after photos to see if you like the type of results shown. It is also important to discuss your desires, fears, and hopes for your procedure with your surgeon to make sure you are both on the same page. It’s true, cost is important; however, your comfort level and the quality of the results should take precedence.
