Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck

A smooth, toned, and well-defined stomach is a desirable aesthetic for many people. Sagging skin, excess fat, and weak abdominal muscles can cause embarrassment and damage a person’s self-esteem. Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck surgery, is a procedure that produces a slender abdomen by removing excess skin and fat. Stretched abdominal muscles can also be addressed to achieve a flat, chiseled midsection.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

Tighter Abdominal Muscles

Aging, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations can lead to stretched, separated, and weakened abdominal muscles. Loose muscles often cause the abdomen to protrude, and repairing the damaged tissues is virtually impossible through diet and exercise alone. Tummy tuck surgery can repair and tighten the abdominal muscles to enhance a patient’s physique.

Reduced Stretch Marks

Childbearing and weight gain are nearly always accompanied by stretch marks due to expansion and poor skin elasticity. Stretch marks that appear on the skin of the lower abdomen can be reduced or eliminated when excess skin is neatly trimmed away during a tummy tuck procedure.

Eliminated Stubborn Fat

Patients who have achieved a healthy, stable weight are often left with residual fat deposits around the stomach. Fat in this region is almost impossible to target with diet and exercise alone, which can become frustrating to many patients. Liposuction can be performed during tummy tuck surgery to remove excess, stubborn fat.

Your Tummy Tuck Journey

Anesthesia

Anesthesia is administered to patients for a safe and comfortable procedure. Both intravenous (IV) sedation and general anesthesia are available, depending on your goals and preferences.

Incisions

Incisions are made horizontally across the abdomen along the pubic region and around the belly button. The length of your incision will be determined based on your desired outcome and amount of fat and skin being removed. The skin is lifted to allow access to the fat for removal and muscles for repositioning. An additional incision may be created to remove excess skin from the upper abdominal area.

Sutures

Skin is then pulled taut and closed with stitches. As the patient heals and swelling dissipates, the outcome of the tummy tuck will become more evident.

Concerns

Recovery

The incisions are wrapped in gauze, and a support garment is used to aid in healing. Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort can be remedied with pain medication. Post-operative care instructions will guide you through your recuperation process and should be strictly followed.

Scars

The incisions for a tummy tuck are strategically placed along the lower abdomen so that the resulting scar can be concealed by undergarments and bathing suits. Scars continue to improve and fade over time, and protecting them from the sun will help prevent them from darkening.

Cost

The final price for a tummy tuck procedure depends on the severity of your condition and several other factors. During your consultation, Dr. Tran will evaluate your body and discuss your preferences and desires to determine the cost of your unique procedure.

Pain

Pain is typically moderate and can be managed using prescription medication.
